In the name of God
New genetic research has led to more efficient methods in the field of effective diagnosis, prognosis and treatment of cancer and optimal management of its side effects, compared to current widely used and classical methods. By focusing on the genes responsible for cancer growth and spread, researchers could identify more targets for drugs and design new treatments to kill cancer cells without damaging healthy tissues.
The medical path will also take faster steps towards personalized medicine in the near future. In the field of cancer, it will be based on the principle that cancer is a genomic disease caused by somatic mutations. Contrary to current standards of care and treatment, which focus primarily on clinical features, personalized cancer medicine promises to improve health care by optimizing treatment effectiveness while minimizing risk, drug toxicity, and unnecessary medical cost.
Cancer researchers use genomics data to accurately predict the likelihood of an aggressive spread of cancer, the likelihood of a response to common therapies, or the use of different treatment methods. The ultimate goal of Drug Genomics is to produce custom-based drugs for individuals’ unique genetic sequences. Several drugs are currently being produced and developed in this way. Molecular biomarkers can be used as a prognostic tool to classify patients into low and high risk groups. These biomarkers identify patients who are suitable for invasive treatments. Therefore, low-risk patients can avoid unnecessary treatments.
In order to face personalized medicine, which in the upcoming decade our beloved country of Iran will also be affected by its global speed, it is necessary to use all the country’s power to elevate the scientistic ability of the researchers and clinicians in this field and help their entry into the field of science and technology. Fortunately, our scientists have published many high impact articles and patents in this field, and these achievements allows us to quickly and efficiently implement our knowledge, along with developed countries. With more accurate and early detection and prevention, we can provide a better service in the field of cancer treatment.
The “International Congress of Cancer Genomics” has the potential to draw the attention of Iranian researchers, with the participation of international scientists, to this field of science and technology. In this regard, the ” Council for Biotechnology Development – Vice Presidency of Science and Technology” will also make efforts to support this field and commercialize it, in order to take steps to promote health, patient recovery and employment of graduates in this field. Given that part of this congress is dedicated to the commercialization of achievements, it is worthwhile for industry owners, along with researchers and scientists in this field, to have a serious presence in this congress and to pay attention to participation and how to commercialize the findings.
